What a fun week we’ve had in school!

On Wednesday, our KS1 Cross Country took place and I couldn’t be prouder of the children – we had podium finishes in every single race. The children showed such determination and enthusiasm, and a huge thank you must go to our Sports Ambassadors and Bronze Ambassadors, who were absolutely fantastic and helped the event run so smoothly.

Wednesday was a very sporty day as we also enjoyed a fun Cricket Engagement Day. The visiting coach was full of praise, saying it was ‘one of the best schools I have been to – the children have been so nice and have been the best behaved group that I have seen.’ What a lovely compliment for our school community!

Parents’ evenings were a great success – thank you to everyone who came along. It was great for teachers to be able to share the children’s progress with you. We have the second session for Spring and Abbey classes still to come next week.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend, enjoy the weather!

Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a wonderful first week back, and there has already been so much to celebrate across the school.
We were delighted to welcome author Catherine Barr, who visited us today to talk about her books and inspire our pupils with a love of reading and the natural world. A reminder that there is a poster and link in the weekly word if you would like to purchase any of Catherine’s books. Catherine will also be returning on 7th May to sign copies, so do keep hold of any books you would like signed.
Our Spring and Tilia classes enjoyed a fantastic visit to Shrewsbury Museum, which included a very special river boat trip. The children represented the school beautifully and gained so much from this memorable experience.
We were also pleased to see the return of our whole-school house meetings this week. It has been lovely to see pupils from all year groups mixing, collaborating and supporting one another once again.
Finally, it has been a real pleasure to be back on the gate this week, catching up with families at the start and end of the day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs HJ

It’s been a gorgeous week in school and a lovely way to end the term. Every class has been busy completing their DT projects, and it has been wonderful to see the children designing, making and, in some cases, tasting new ingredients as part of their learning. The creativity and enthusiasm across the school has been fantastic.

Today the Priory and Windmill classes enjoyed their joint trip to Bishops Wood, which was a brilliant experience for them and a great way to finish the week.

I also absolutely loved judging the Egg Decorating Competition today. The creativity was incredible! I particularly enjoyed the entries inspired by children’s favourite book characters – they were so imaginative and clearly made with a lot of care.

I’ve really missed being able to stand on the gate and see you all each day, but I’m hoping to be off the crutches after the break, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Over the last week especially, it has been lovely to see how calm, happy and full of joy the children have been in school. A big thank you as well to our wonderful staff team for their dedication and the care they show our children every day.

I hope you all have a wonderful break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in two weeks for what will be a jam-packed summer term. Key dates will be shared very soon.

Supporting Online Safety at Home

Dear Parents and Carers,

At Much Wenlock Primary School, we remain firmly committed to safeguarding all our children — particularly when it comes to online safety, which continues to be one of the biggest risks facing young people today.

In January, we invited you to attend an online safety workshop. Many of you joined us and fed back that the session was extremely useful. As online risks increasingly enter our homes through apps, games, social media and online content, we want to make sure you have as much support as possible.

To help with this, I have attached a document which includes:

  • A link so you can watch or rewatch the workshop at your convenience
  • A list of useful online safety links and resources to support you at home

The Priory & 3 to 18 Education Trust Parent Online Safety links

I hope you find these helpful as we continue to work together to keep all our children safe.

Many thanks,

Rachel Howell-James
Headteacher

Weekly Word

What a week of celebration it has been at Much Wenlock!
Last weekend our children shone at Live Arts, with an array of winners across all categories. Mrs Ball, Mrs Beddow and Mrs Nicholas said the children were phenomenal – creative, confident and absolutely captivating from start to finish. They have made us incredibly proud.
We are also celebrating our Year 5 writers. Nine of our pupils were competition winners in a recent writing challenge. What makes this even more special is that many of those children told us at the start of the year that writing was their least favourite subject. Their success is a testament to our commitment to awe, wonder and high‑quality literacy teaching through our beautiful writing process, as well as the power of reading and the resilience they have built this year.
Sport has been just as exciting. Our Cressage Cup netball team secured a brilliant 3rd place, and our footballers brought the cup home once again this year. Whether they won, lost or drew, every child represented our school with pride. They showed what it means to “feel the fear and do it anyway” – living our value of resilience in action.
Today rounded off the week perfectly. The atmosphere in school has been wonderful as children explored cultures from around the world through sport, dance, food and art. They have absolutely loved it, and staff have been blown away by their curiosity, kindness and enthusiasm.
A quick personal update from me: I am in school, and I’ll be back on the gate as soon as I’m off crutches and able to stand unaided!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Mrs H‑J
