This is an exciting and important year where children grow in confidence, independence and curiosity as learners. We work hard, support one another, celebrate our successes every day and share what we are grateful for and how we have shown resilience at the end of every school day. We enjoy learning through practical resources to build on our previous learning and use lots of oracy in all areas of the curriculum to develop our language and communication skills. In our class we have myself (Miss Edwards) as your class teacher and Miss Wells who helps support all of our lovely learning.
A Bit About Me – Miss Edwards
Hello! I’m Miss Edwards, and I love being part of Tilia Class.
Outside of school, I enjoy arts and crafts and have a huge passion for Formula 1! I love being out in nature and exploring new places with family and using knowledge and experiences I have to use in our wonderful learning at school.
Any amazing adventures or experiences you have, please share them with the rest of the class!
Our Vision for Tilia Class
In Tilia Class, we aim to:
- Build independence – taking responsibility for learning, organisation and behaviour
- Develop the skills and confidence needed to be ready for Year 2
- Believe in the power of yet- “I cannot do it YET” “I do not know YET“
We celebrate effort, resilience and kindness, knowing that progress looks different for everyone but always matters.
We think Tilia class is the best place to be because:
“Learning is so much fun!” – Livvy
“It feels so calm and safe!” – Robbie
“We have everything we need and I feel like I belong!” – Albie
“Our maths lessons are the best and so much fun!” – Felix
“Our friends and teachers are so kind and help us!” – Josh
“We are a family and a team!” – Eva
How Parents Can Help at Home
You play a huge role in supporting your child’s learning. Simple, regular actions at home make a big difference:
- Encourage your child to read daily and talk about what they’ve read
- Practise number bonds to 10 and counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s little and often
- Practising phonics and spellings with your child.
- Talk about learning at school – ask what challenged them or what they’re proud of
- Support good routines: organisation, homework time and sleep
- Encourage curiosity – questions, discussions and learning from mistakes
Most importantly, celebrate effort and a positive attitude to learning.
Show and Tell of the Week
Each week, children are invited to take part in Show and Tell.
This could be:
- An object, photo or project
- Something linked to learning
- Something they’re proud of or interested in
Show and Tell helps build confidence, communication skills and listening.
Children are encouraged to give it a go and aim to be 1% better than last week.
Phonics
At Much Wenlock we use Monster Phonics to support our decoding and blending skills. Children enjoy learning the different monsters associated with the different sounds and love how interactive and engaging our phonics lessons are. In year 1 we conduct a phonics screening check during summer 2 term and information regarding this will be given nearer the time. Any questions regarding phonics or the screening check are welcome and we will always do our best to help and support you and your child with their learning.
