Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at Much Wenlock Primary School

Inspiring Learning Environments
Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed with engaging areas including construction zones, phonics stations, creative spaces, and a realistic home corner. Real-life objects, such as China tea sets and metal weights, will help your child connect their learning to the real world and enhance their sensory experiences. Our classroom is filled with a diverse range of books and reading resources to encourage a lifelong love of reading.
Outdoor Learning Adventures
Our outdoor classroom is a safe space for children to be outside…and get messy! Our children become architects, planners, and scientists with dedicated spaces for mud and water play, large construction projects, gardening, and role play. We believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, so we’re prepared with clothing to embrace all weather conditions.
Forest School Exploration
Our school is home to two extensive forest school sites where our children can connect with nature, socialise, and get muddy! We encourage your child’s natural curiosity through focused activities and child-led play.
School uniform

To welcome you to the school, your child will be given a cap, school book bag and house water bottle during their transition sessions. These items have been gifted by the school community.
Settling into Reception
We invite new Reception starters and their parents/carers to join us for transition sessions before starting school in September. Your child will also be assigned a ‘Middle-sized friend’ for when they join the school. These are Year 4 pupils from the same house group who will support your child in the first weeks of school, taking them to lunch and playing with them on the playground.
When your child starts school, we do not expect them to be able to read or write. We do; however, ask that parents ensure children are able to dress and undress themselves, including zipping up coats (although some support will be provided for those tricky buttons if needed) and are able to go to the toilet themselves.
A Day in the Life of Reception Class
Wrap-around care
Term-time childcare is available from 8.00am at the school’s breakfast club and after school until 5.30pm. At both clubs, children are provided with a healthy breakfast/snack and a variety of activities. If eligible, you can use tax-free childcare towards the cost of wrap-around care and clubs.
After school clubs include sports, crafts, music and Lego, and sessions vary throughout the year.
