Chocolate, Fractions & Future Mathematicians!

Over two brilliant days, Abbey Class took part in fun, hands‑on maths workshops with Bridgnorth Endowed School as part of our transition programme.

The focus was fractions of amounts, explored in practical ways – including using chocolate to make learning stick! The sessions made maths fun, helped remove barriers, and built confidence.

A fantastic opportunity to work with a secondary school, collaborate with older students, and feel excited about what’s next.
So proud of our Abbey Class mathematicians – great work!

Inspiring Assembly with Author Catherine Barr

We were delighted to welcome children’s author Catherine Barr into school this morning, where she led a fantastic whole‑school assembly. Catherine shared how her love of nature, the planet and real‑life issues inspires her books, which aim to empower young people to care about the world around them and believe they can make a difference 🌍💚

The children were completely engaged, showing great enthusiasm for her stories and asking thoughtful, insightful questions that sparked real discussion. It was wonderful to see such curiosity and confidence from our pupils.

Thank you, Catherine, for such an inspiring morning and for encouraging the next generation of readers, thinkers and changemakers!

Curiosity, Teamwork and Smiles All Round

Today, our Spring and Tilia Class children enjoyed a truly memorable educational trip to Shrewsbury, packed full of discovery, creativity and adventure.

We started our day at Shrewsbury Museum, where the children took part in an exciting workshop inspired by the story “The Curious Mammoth.” After listening to the story, the children became museum detectives, exploring the galleries to find eight clues linked to the book – including a dinosaur egg, ancient spears, two portraits and even a woolly mammoth!

The hands-on activities were a real highlight. The children:

  • 🎨 Painted their own ammonite fossils
  • 🖐️ Created cave paintings
  • 🪓 Made axes using sticks and flint
  • 🧵 Tried leather weaving
  • ❄️ Explored an “Ice Age” tent filled with books and artefacts

After lunch, we took a lovely walk through Shrewsbury to the river, where the adventure continued with a boat trip on the Sabrina. The children enjoyed sailing along the River Severn from the Welsh Bridge to the English Bridge and back again, taking in the sights of the town from the water.

It was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork and fun – the children were curious, enthusiastic and a real credit to our school. Well done, Spring and Tilia Class!

A very special library visit for Spring Class

Spring Class thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the local library! For many children, it was their very first library trip — and even more exciting, their first time getting to take a book from the library using their very own membership card. They listened beautifully, were full of wonder, and had great fun exploring the shelves.

Starting a love of books and reading at such an early age is so important. Well done, Spring Class — perfect library guests and a fantastic way to celebrate our Year of Reading!

Priory Class – Habitats and Their Living Things Workshop

Before the Easter holidays, Priory Class enjoyed a fantastic visit to Bishops Wood, where they took part in an exciting Habitats and Their Living Things workshop.

The children loved getting involved in hands-on activities, including orienteering and searching for insects in their natural habitats. It was a wonderful day full of exploration, discovery, and learning about the many creatures that share our world.

Priory Class represented the school brilliantly, showing great enthusiasm, curiosity, and teamwork throughout the day. Well done Priory Class!

Inspiring young minds through Music and Engineering

Abbey and Linden classes were excited to engage with the unique “WOOFYT” (Wooden One-off-initely For Youth) instrument during a special workshop held a little while ago.

The children were fascinated by this hands‑on introduction to how a pipe organ works. They learned how air pressure creates sound, explored the organ’s key parts, and even played a few notes themselves. The session brought music, engineering, and history to life while sparking real curiosity about how instruments are made and how they work.

The children returned to school buzzing with curiosity and new knowledge, demonstrating the value of enriching and accessible local educational opportunities.

Thank you to Much Wenlock Parish Church and Much Wenlock Ecclesiastical Charity for inviting us to take part in this captivating and free event.

🥚 Egg‑ceptional effort from our amazing artists!

Well done to every child who took part in this year’s egg decorating competition.

We were blown away by the incredible creativity, imagination, and artistic talent on display. From colourful characters to beautifully crafted designs, every single entry was something to be proud of.

While there were some standout winners, every child received a prize to celebrate their hard work, effort, and enthusiasm — and they absolutely deserved it.

Wishing all our families and staff a wonderful and relaxing two‑week break. Enjoy the time off — you’ve earned it!

A Wonderful Day of Discovery for Windmill Class

Windmill Class enjoyed a truly wonderful day of immersive outdoor learning at Bishops Wood, set within beautiful ancient woodland.

They took part in hands‑on environmental studies and stepped into the past with engaging living‑history activities, including learning Saxon and Viking skills that brought history to life in the most memorable way.

A fantastic day of curiosity, nature, and adventure!

This Is My Place: Nurturing Belonging and wellbeing in our school

Last month, Much Wenlock Primary School and Nursery proudly celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week.

This year’s theme, “This Is My Place,” focused on helping children feel a strong sense of belonging within their school, community, and the wider world – an important foundation for positive mental health and wellbeing.

Throughout the week, classes explored belonging, identity, inclusion, and feeling safe and valued using a range of PSHE resources. We also came together for a whole-school assembly on mental health, took part in a daily mile around the playground to support wellness and calmness, and joined in whole-school communication projects that encouraged connection and togetherness.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us promote a true sense of BELONGING across our school.

Multicultural Day at Much Wenlock Primary School!

Last week, our school came together to celebrate the incredible diversity of our world by exploring China, India, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan — and what an amazing journey it was! 🇨🇳🇮🇳🇬🇧🇵🇰

Each child received their very own passport, which they carried with them as they “travelled” from country to country. Along the way, they filled their pages with fascinating facts, beautiful traditions, and colourful experiences from every place they visited.

At Much Wenlock Primary, we believe that multiculturalism is not just about recognising differences; it’s about celebrating them. Our diverse world enriches us, sparks creativity, and helps us understand one another on a deeper level. By embracing multiculturalism, we create more inclusive, vibrant, and interconnected communities — starting right here in our school.

🫧 Mindful Bubbles in Tilia Class 🫧

Last week, Tilia Class enjoyed a calm mindfulness moment with bubbles. Watching them float and taking slow breaths helped the children relax, focus, and manage their emotions. Such simple activities make a big difference in supporting their wellbeing.

Edge Class Meets Our Everyday Heroes

Last week, Edge Class had the absolute honour of welcoming the police and fire brigade into school.

They worked with the children to teach them how to keep themselves and others safe in a variety of situations.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn from real-life heroes, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of safety in our community.

📚 Library Adventures for Abbey and Linden Classes!

Over the last couple of weeks, Abbey and Linden Classes have enjoyed wonderful visits to our local library. For some children, it was their very first time stepping inside—and they are now the proud owners of their very own library cards!

During their visits, the children discovered everything Shropshire Libraries have to offer and even had the chance to borrow a book to take home. It’s a brilliant reminder of how valuable these community spaces are, especially as we celebrate The National Year of Reading.

A huge thank you to Karen, who welcomed the children so warmly and shared her passion for how magical and important libraries can be.

📚✨ Abbey Class Young Writers Success! ✨📚

We are bursting with pride for the 13 children from Abbey Class who recently entered the Young Writers “I Have a Dream” poetry competition and have all been selected to have their work published!

Our young poets responded to the theme with creativity, courage and thoughtfulness, crafting poems that explored their own aspirations and the kind of world they hope to help shape. By submitting their work, they embraced the role of young authors and joined a wider national writing community.

🌟 Why this matters
Taking part in opportunities like this helps children grow in so many ways:

  • Confidence in their own voice and ideas
  • Reflection, as they think deeply about their experiences and the wider world
  • Literacy skills, including imagery, precise language and poetic form
  • Belonging, as they contribute to a national conversation about dreams, futures and positive change

A huge thank you to Miss Price for organising this competition entry and inspiring our pupils every step of the way. Our children are truly fortunate to have such a remarkable role model — someone who not only champions their creativity but is also courageously following her own dreams, with her first book soon to be published. What an extraordinary example for our young writers to look up to.

Congratulations to all of our Abbey Class authors — your dreams, your words, your vision matter. 💫✍️📖

Brave, Bold and Bike‑Ready!

Linden Class recently took part in Bikeability, building essential safety skills, boosting cycling confidence and learning about sustainable travel.

We’re so proud of their resilience, positive attitude and bravery throughout. Well done, Linden Class!

🌟 A Fantastic Morning at the Cressage Cup! 🌟

What an incredible morning of sport, teamwork and determination from our Year 5 and 6 children at yesterday’s Cressage Cup competition!

Both teams shone with talent, bravery and resilience – but what truly stood out was their superb teamwork. From supportive team talks to shared tactics and words of encouragement, they really embodied the spirit of MWPS.

🥉 Our netball team secured an impressive 3rd place against tough competition – a brilliant achievement!

🏆 Our football team won their competition, proudly bringing home the Cressage Cup trophy!

We are especially proud of those children who took part in the sport for the very first time. It was wonderful to see pupils stepping out of their comfort zone and embracing new opportunities.

A huge thank you to Broseley Primary School for hosting such a well‑organised and welcoming event.

To our families: thank you for your continued support. We appreciate that not every child can be selected for every competition, and we know this can sometimes lead to disappointment. Please be assured that we offer a wide range of sporting activities, festivals and competitions across the year so that as many children as possible have the chance to get involved, shine and represent our school. We hope our whole community can join together in celebrating yesterday’s successes.

Well done to every child who represented our school yesterday – you made us incredibly proud. 🌟

Spring Class – Honouring the Love That Shapes Us

Spring Class shared a truly special Mother’s Day celebration in school last Friday. The children sang with pride, shared their favourite memories, and welcomed their grown-ups into school for a warm and joyful stay-and-play session. Thank you to all who made the afternoon so full of love and connection ♥️ 💐

🌟 British Science Week at MWPS🌟

Last week, our whole school loved exploring this year’s theme, “Curiosity: What’s your question?”

From investigating whether toast lands butter‑side down to designing the best paper aeroplane, role‑playing how bees help flowers, collaborating on STEAM artwork, and even joining a live ocean‑themed assembly — our pupils have been busy asking questions, exploring ideas, and learning through wonder. 🧪🌍🐝✏️✈️

What a fantastic celebration of curiosity and scientific thinking across the school! 🔍✨

🌊🔬 Science Week 2026 – Ocean Depths: What Lies Beneath? 🔬🌊

Last week, pupils from Edge class enjoyed taking part in a live Science Week assembly exploring the depths of the ocean. They discovered some of the fascinating creatures and mysteries that exist far beneath the waves and learned more about the incredible environments found in our oceans. 🐙🐟
It was a brilliant opportunity to spark curiosity and encourage our young scientists to think about what lies beneath the surface of our planet’s oceans. 🌍

Celebrating Talent, Teamwork and Togetherness

Our Year 5 and 6 children took part in an exciting swimming gala today, joining pupils from 10 local primary schools for a morning of competitive heats, different strokes and fast‑paced relays. The event was full of energy, determination and fantastic effort from every swimmer.

But what truly made the gala special was the spirit around the pool.

Instead of rivalry, there was genuine encouragement – children from all schools cheering one another on, celebrating every finish, and showing kindness and support that lifted every participant. It was a wonderful reminder of how sport can bring young people together and create moments where everyone feels valued and confident.

A huge thank you to William Brookes School for hosting such a brilliant event and to all the volunteer supporters who helped make it happen.

And finally, well done to our amazing pupils for their “give it a go” attitude, resilience and the way they lifted each other up throughout the competition. We’re extremely proud of you all! 🌟🥇

Celebrating a Love of Reading! 📚

It was a joy to see how our youngest children embraced the magic of everyday reading this World Book Day, arriving in the most wonderful costumes! From storybook heroes to favourite characters, their excitement and imagination shone through every page they turned.

It was also lovely to welcome the families who were able to join us and share a story with their children — a heart‑warming way to celebrate the joy of reading together.

A huge well done to our little readers—your love of stories makes our school shine!

Edge Class Embraces the Stone Age! 🪵🎯

Year 3 had an incredible day at Wrekin Forest School, diving into life in the Stone Age!

They enjoyed archery, woodwork, clay pot making, cave painting, baking cookies and even trying on Stone Age clothing. The facilities were fantastic and the free‑play sessions were a huge hit. They returned to school very muddy… but extremely happy! 🌧️😊

📚 World Book Day Magic at Much Wenlock Primary School & Nursery! ✨

Our whole school enjoyed a brilliant reading carousel today, with every class getting involved. Tomorrow we’re excited for online workshops with real authors, and our much‑anticipated bake‑off results will be announced later this week!

Chinese and Lunar New Year Fun! 🧧🐉

Chinese and Lunar New Year Fun! 🧧🐉

Reception and Nursery enjoyed a wonderful morning together on Friday celebrating Chinese/Lunar New Year.

Both settings were filled with exciting activities:

✨ Lantern Making with Mrs Ball – the children practised cutting and strengthened their fine motor skills.

🥕 Stir-Fry Station with Nicole – children chopped vegetables to help prepare a delicious stir fry.

🖌️ Chinese Writing with Hayley – the children loved trying out Chinese characters.

🐲 Dragon Creations with Anita – lots of imaginative and colourful designs appeared throughout the morning!

Once the stir fry was cooked, everyone had the chance to try some. We even used breadsticks as chopsticks when we ran out… which the children found hilarious! 🥢😄

A fantastic morning full of learning, culture and creativity.

Building Future Coders, One Click at a Time

We’re excited to share that Coding Club has officially launched at Much Wenlock Primary School! 💻✨

In our very first session, the children took part in an Explore Workshop where they got hands-on with a range of programming tools:

🔹 Micro:bit – experimenting with inputs, outputs and simple programs.

🔹 Scratch – exploring block coding and testing interactive projects.

🔹 Purple Mash – navigating creative coding activities.

The children loved testing and debugging other people’s code — spotting errors, predicting what programs would do, and suggesting improvements. It was fantastic to see such teamwork, curiosity and resilience when things didn’t quite work the first time!

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be collaborating to design and build our own shared project in Scratch. The pupils will plan, code, debug and refine their ideas together — just like real programmers.

We can’t wait to see what they create! 🚀

📚 Inspiring Young Readers at Much Wenlock Library 🌟

As part of our school’s celebration of the National Year of Reading 2026, every student will be visiting Much Wenlock Community Library to receive free Shropshire Libraries membership – opening the door to a world of books, e‑books, creative activities, and community resources beyond our school library.

Tillia Class had a fantastic time exploring the shelves today and discovering new stories to enjoy. A huge thank you to the wonderful library staff for their passion, time, and for making the children feel so welcome. Your enthusiasm truly inspires our young readers! 💛📖
