National Writing Success for Our Talented Young Author

We have some AMAZING news!

One of our pupils, Jasper Neale, has been selected as a winner in the I Have A Dream competition!

Jasper’s entry was chosen from more than 21,500 submissions, making this an incredible achievement and a testament to his creativity and talent.

Here’s what independent judge Mark Grist had to say about Jasper’s work:
“Jasper, I love how you’ve taken the dream of seeing dinosaurs alive but brought them into our time – it makes for a unique and imaginative poem as you describe them in our modern world. The rhyme scheme works to create a lovely rhythm to the piece, carrying the reader through to the end. Well done!”

You can read Jasper’s published poem here: https://www.youngwriters.co.uk/competitions/winners/primary-7-12/dream26

A huge congratulations to Jasper, and well done to all of our Year 5 children who entered the competition and had their work published. Having your work published is a fantastic achievement at any age, and we are incredibly proud of you all!

Where Olympic Dreams Began: Much Wenlock Pupils Shine on Sports Day

From Nursery through to our oldest pupils, along with teachers and parents, everyone got involved and made the day a huge success. The mix of track and field events felt especially fitting as we celebrated sport in the home of the Modern Olympic Games.

A huge thank you to all who attended and supported the day, especially Mr Oldershaw for organising such a wonderful event, and our fantastic parent volunteers on refreshments, Maddie and Claire.

Events like Sports Day are so important in helping children build resilience, support their house teams, develop teamwork, and celebrate both effort and achievement.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Last week, our children enjoyed a fantastic Careers Morning, designed to open their eyes to the many exciting opportunities available to them in the future.

Throughout the morning, pupils met with a range of professionals who shared insights into their careers, the qualifications and experiences they needed, and the journey they took to get where they are today. With many of our pupils expressing an interest in careers involving animals, helping the public and working within their local communities, we were delighted to welcome a range of speakers who reflected these aspirations.

A huge thank you to:
🔹 Rachel James & Richard Belcham – Health & Social Care
🔹 Emma Hardwidge – Game Development
🔹 Sean Gregory – Exotic Animal Business Founder
🔹 Lisa Apted – Veterinary Surgeon
🔹 Helen Scott – PCSO, West Mercia Police
🔹 David O’Toole – CEO, 318 Education
🔹 Tom Larkham – Headteacher, Coleham Primary (originally trained as a Zoologist)
🔹 Lucy Steventon – Our very own amazing teacher, who has lived and taught in schools all around the world.

The talks were captivating, informative and inspirational, and we are incredibly grateful to all our speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to engage with the children.

A special thank you to Lucy Steventon for organising such a wonderful event and helping our pupils think about the possibilities that lie ahead.

Much Wenlock get their rock on

Over the last few months, our budding musicians have learned new instruments, developed their skills, perfected techniques and worked hard to master their songs in their Rocksteady sessions.

All of that dedication came together in a brilliant live gig for pupils and parents today.

We are so proud of their bravery, commitment and teamwork as they built their bands from the ground up and rehearsed week atter week. They truly showed what can be achieved through perseverance and collaboration.

Well done to all of our performers – you were amazing! Rock on, Much Wenlock

Summer fair fun

What a fabulous Summer Fair we had yesterday! The sun was shining, the smiles were plenty, and it was wonderful to see so many members of our amazing community come together to support our school.

A huge thank you to Tracie and Cheryl for sourcing so many fantastic prizes and organising our amazing raffles. Winners and prize thank yous will be shared over the next few days.

Thank you also to Maddie and Em for your fantastic support on the day, helping with set-up and running stalls. To our wonderful Year 6 pupils, thank you for your enthusiasm and help throughout the event – you were amazing!

A big thank you to all of our staff for their hard work in making the fair such a success, and a special mention to Ava, one of our former pupils, who kindly volunteered her time at the fair and stepped in to run one of our stalls for us – we are truly grateful!

Events like this are a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together while raising valuable funds for our school, and we are extremely grateful for the support we receive.

We are so proud of our school choir for their fantastic performance at Shropshire Sings! A small but mighty group – these photos say it all: passion, confidence, and pride shining through.

A huge thank you to Mrs Nicholas, Mrs Beddow and Mrs Ball for weeks of lunchtime practice and for giving up their evening to make this wonderful experience possible.

Enchanted Owls

Tilia Class have been busy getting creative in art, crafting their own beautiful owl sculptures inspired by The Enchanted Owl by Kenojuak Ashevak. From bold shapes to intricate details, their work captured the spirit and magic of this iconic piece – fantastic effort and imagination all round!

Mission Garden Update

EDGE have begun transferring their sunflowers into the school flower beds, and we can’t wait to see the school bursting with colour by the end of the summer term!

We are also looking for donations of garden soil or compost to help our flowers thrive. If you have any spare soil at home that you would be willing to donate, we would be incredibly grateful.

Out of this world learning!

Linden and Abbey Class had an incredible immersive day at the National Space Centre in Leicester!

From exploring real rockets to discovering the wonders of our solar system, the experience brought their classroom learning vividly to life.

Hands-on exhibits and interactive displays sparked curiosity, deepened understanding of space science, and inspired lots of questions about the universe around us. Experiences like this help our pupils build confidence, think critically, and develop a real passion for learning beyond the classroom.

A memorable day that sparked curiosity, inspired big thinking, and created lasting connections with their learning.

Big Friends, Little Friends: Sharing Stories Together

Abbey Class and Tilia Class came together for a lovely Big Friends, Little Friends reading session this week. It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to share stories, build confidence, and support one another in their love of reading. The enjoyment was clear to see, with smiles all around! 📚✨

A fantastic way to continue celebrating our passion for books as part of the Year of Reading.

🚀 Abbey Class are officially STEM Superstars! 🌟

As part of their Road to RIAT journey with the RAF, Abbey Class took part in an inspiring STEM Superstars Workshop — and they absolutely rose to the challenge. From engineering puzzles to real‑world problem‑solving, our pupils showed curiosity, teamwork, and the kind of big thinking that makes the future feel exciting.

🚀 Science Club blasted off into space earlier this week!

We explored our understanding of the solar system through online quizzes and interactive games, helping us reinforce key learning in a fun, fast‑paced way.

Lots of laughter, lots of teamwork, and lots of “aha!” moments — exactly what Science Club is all about. 🌍✨

Bringing Families Together: International Day of Families

What a fabulous turnout we had for our whole school picnic yesterday! Even with the threat of showers, nothing dampened the cheerful atmosphere, and it was so lovely to see so many families coming together.

The event, held to celebrate the International Day of Families, was a real highlight and a wonderful reminder of just how strong, supportive and special our school community is.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a warm, happy and memorable occasion.

Superstars of Linden Class: Mission SATs Complete

A huge well done to all of our amazing Year 6 pupils in Linden Class for completing their SATs.

Over the past week, you have shown

outstanding determination, resilience, and focus

– and you even mastered those all-important super hero poses along the way!

We are so incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Your hard work and positive attitude have truly shone through.

A special thank you to Mrs Beddow for coming in extra early every day to help run SATs Breaktast Club, along with our wonderful Breaktast Club staff, for ensuring every child had a healthy and energising start to the day.

Your support made a real difference throughout the week.

Now it’s time to relax and recharge – enjoy a well-deserved, relaxing weekend.

Well done, Linden Class – you are all superstars!

Happy Birthday Sir Dave!

The previous week we marked Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with a truly special, immersive experience across our school.

From Willow Class to Linden Class, every year group – from Nursery through to Year 6 – came together to create a live installation representing different biomes from around the world. Each space explored our value of Sustainability, helping children understand both the beauty of our planet and the human impact upon it.

The journey ended with Year 6’s “Room of Hope”, where pupils shared art work, research presentations and performance poetry and spoke passionately about the actions we can all take to reduce our impact and protect the future of our world.

As you can understand, with Ofsted also in school this week, we have had a little extra going on – so this is just a snippet of the day.

Thank you so much to all the families and members of our community who took the time to visit each exhibition and celebrate the children’s learning with us. Mrs HJ

Big Friends, Little Friends moments

Earlier this week, Edge Class thoroughly enjoyed spending time playing with Nursery and Spring Class after winning this week’s Big Friends, Little Friends attendance award. This initiative is invaluable in helping older pupils develop leadership skills, act as positive role models, and support younger children in feeling confident and included.

Earth Day Sunflowers

EDGE are thrilled to see their Earth Day sunflowers finally pushing through the soil! Fantastic work, everyone – we’re so excited to watch them continue to grow!

A Fantastic Afternoon of New Challenges

On Wednesday afternoon, Edge and Windmill Classes enjoyed a fun‑filled orienteering and Tri‑Golf event at William Brookes School. For some pupils it was their first time trying a new sport, and everyone embraced the experience. There was lots of teamwork, healthy competition, and enjoyment throughout the afternoon.

Windmill Class Rise to the Challenge at Pioneer

Windmill Class enjoyed a highly successful residential at Pioneer, where pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience and bravery. Children supported one another, embraced new challenges and showed growing confidence and independence throughout the experience. The residential made a valuable contribution to pupils’ personal development and strengthened positive relationships within the class.

Sneak peek alert…

Abbey Class have been busy creating something truly special. We can’t say what it is yet, but their creativity and hard work have been amazing. Stay tuned…

Linden Class enjoyed a lovely, calm end to a busy week with a yoga session

The children practised simple poses, breathing and relaxation techniques before enjoying gentle stretches to calming music. With eyes closed in a calm, safe and supportive environment, everyone had time to relax and unwind – a couple of children even nodded off! We finished the session by sharing what we are grateful for and reflecting on acts of resilience, supporting wellbeing, selt-awareness and personal development.

Yoga forms an important part of our PE provision, helping children develop physical skills alongside emotional wellbeing, self-regulation and positive attitudes to health and activity.

Dinosaur Discoveries in Nursery

Last week, Nursery stepped back in time to explore the exciting world of dinosaurs. The children learned all about the role of a palaeontologist, taking part in hands‑on activities as they carefully dug for “fossilised bones” and worked together to piece their discoveries back together.

There was lots of curiosity, teamwork, and imaginative thinking as the children shared ideas about what their dinosaurs might have looked like and how they lived. They showed great enthusiasm throughout, using tools safely and developing important problem‑solving and fine motor skills.

A fantastic example of playful, purposeful learning that supports language development, collaboration, and early scientific enquiry 🦕🌟

Spring Class – Learning, Creating, and Caring Together

Last Friday, Reception celebrated Earth Day by exploring why it is important to care for our planet and how even the youngest children can help make a difference.

Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s hot air balloon journey and Mrs Ball’s photographs from New Mexico, the children looked at our world from above and learned about the plants and animals that share it. They then painted Earth‑themed hot air balloons and discussed how pollution can affect wildlife.

Working together, the children created a large world using classroom materials in a sustainable way, before placing their hands around the Earth and making a promise to protect it. The day ended with a playground litter pick, helping the children put their learning into action.

A wonderful day of hands‑on learning, creativity, and care for our world 🌍✨

Recycling with a Splash of Creativity!

Linden Class enjoyed a creative art afternoon with sustainability in mind, reusing recycled plastics from around school to support their project. The children developed creativity, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills while exploring how everyday materials can be repurposed responsibly. A great way to unwind after a week of focus and hard work.

🌍🌻 Earth Day in Edge Class 🌻

Edge Class celebrated Earth Day by planting sunflowers as part of their science learning, bringing our school value of Sustainability to life.

Over the coming weeks, the children will observe and record plant growth in weekly diaries, developing key scientific skills. Once established, the sunflowers will be planted in the school grounds to continue their journey. Learning about nature, sustainability, and growth in action!

Running, Resilience and Role Models

Wednesday also brought another fantastic sporting opportunity, as KS1 took part in a cross‑country event on our school grounds with Barrow School.

Our Sports and Bronze Ambassadors were excellent role models, showing strong leadership and responsibility while helping the event run smoothly.

The KS1 children were outstanding, demonstrating resilience, determination and positive attitudes to challenge. They supported and encouraged one another and showed excellent sportsmanship by cheering on pupils from Barrow School. Despite the course being long and challenging, every child persevered and crossed the finishing line, finishing with proud smiles.

It was wonderful to see our school values in action — children supporting others, embracing challenge and celebrating effort. We couldn’t be prouder of them. 🏃‍♀️🏅✨

Cricket Fever Hits Our School!

We were delighted to welcome Willey Cricket Club into school on Wednesday, who delivered high‑quality coaching sessions for every class. The children had a fantastic time developing new skills, confidence and teamwork through fun, engaging games alongside expert coaching techniques. For many, this was their first experience of cricket, opening up new opportunities and helping to unlock hidden talents through inclusive and enriching sport.

We are always proud of our wonderful children, but it means so much to hear others recognise this too. Here are just some of the lovely things the coaches said about our school:

“This is such a lovely school.”
“One of the best schools I’ve been to.”
“The children have been so nice.”
“The best behaviour I’ve seen!”

A huge thank you to Willey Cricket Club for supporting our commitment to enrichment, community partnerships and positive experiences for all our children 🏏✨
