Outdoor Adventures and Autumn Magic

Alongside their creative projects, Spring Class made the most of the autumn season through hands-on outdoor learning and imaginative play. The children enjoyed decorating pumpkins by carefully hammering golf tees into them, taking part in a spirited conker rolling championship and exploring sensory activities in the outdoor kitchen, where pumpkin soup, melon scooping and seasonal discoveries sparked plenty of conversation and collaboration.

As half term approached, a touch of magic arrived in the classroom too. The children eagerly mixed potions using herbs, lavender and other natural materials, creating their own spells and magical concoctions. It was heartwarming to hear the values woven into their play, with children encouraging one another to add kindness, love and friendship to their cauldrons. Their imaginative storytelling, creativity and care for others were a wonderful reflection of the nurturing ethos we value so highly at Much Wenlock Primary School.

A creative end to the half term for Spring Class

In the weeks leading up to half term, Spring Class embraced their creativity through a range of exciting artistic experiences. From warming and shaping clay to create charming hedgehogs, to exploring the vibrant colours of autumn through collaborative conker rolling paintings, the children approached every activity with enthusiasm and imagination.

Inspired by The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, the children experimented with dots in many different forms, creating individual and large-scale artwork using a variety of printing tools and techniques. They transformed fabric into a colourful dotty cape, created striking collaborative displays and discovered how a simple dot can become something extraordinary.

The children’s artistic journey also included exploring the work of famous artists. They created their own versions of Wassily Kandinsky’s iconic circular designs, carefully selecting colours and using controlled circular movements to develop their drawing skills.

Throughout these activities, the children demonstrated curiosity, perseverance and a growing confidence in expressing themselves through art.

Spring Class first trip

Recently, Spring Class enjoyed their very first school trip, exploring the rich history and community of Much Wenlock.

Accompanied by Miss Wells, our very own local tour guide, the children visited St Milburga’s Well before heading to the library.

For some children, this was their first ever visit to a library, making the experience especially memorable. They loved listening to a story, browsing the bookshelves and sharing plenty of giggles along the way.

Inspired by their visit and photographs of our historic town, the children have since been creating their own model of Much Wenlock, carefully adding the places that are important to them, from the school and park to local shops and the swimming pool.

It has been wonderful to see our values of wonder, nurture and resilience shining through as the children deepened their connection with the community and learned more about the special town we are so fortunate to call home. We are incredibly proud of how brilliantly they represented our school.

Edge Class family feast

Recently, Edge Class enjoyed a wonderful Family Lunch with their loved ones. It was lovely to see families and children sharing a meal together and taking time to celebrate our special school community. Thank you once again to our amazing kitchen team and staff for cooking up and hosting such a delicious feast.

An autumnal walk through Wenlock

Tilia Class enjoyed a wonderful walk into Much Wenlock, exploring the natural beauty and rich heritage right on our doorstep. At the Linden Field (Gaskell Recreation Ground), the children investigated magnificent trees, collected and identified autumn leaves, created nature art and recorded their observations through sketching. Through their sense of wonder and appreciation for the environment, they explored how we can value and care for the natural spaces that make our town so special.

Linden Class cooking up a treat

Linden Class enjoyed a hands-on DT cooking session, developing their chopping and food preparation skills as they carefully prepared fresh ingredients and created healthy wraps.

The delicious aromas drifting through the school certainly caught everyone’s attention and left many tummies rumbling.

Well done, Linden Class, on your tasty creations and growing confidence in the kitchen.

Chefs in the making

Abbey Class enjoyed a fantastic DT week exploring foods from around the world, creating homemade flatbreads with herby garlic sauce, mezze dishes with chickpeas, and open sandwiches with a homemade harissa-infused dip.

The children researched the backgrounds of different foods, considered presentation, and were encouraged to try new flavours and ingredients. It was lovely to see so many children stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing new tastes. Who knows, we may even have a few future chefs in Abbey Class

A Week of Wonder at Wenlock

Our weekly glimpse into life at Much Wenlock Primary School.

This week has been full of exciting opportunities for our children to learn, create and be inspired.

We enjoyed a whole-school music assembly from Shropshire Music Service, where children experienced the joy of a live acoustic performance, with some pupils enjoying live music for the very first time.

Tilia Class impressed Mrs Wells with their fantastic balance, coordination and listening skills during PE, showing great focus and following instructions brilliantly.

Abbey Class embraced scientific discovery, using magnets to separate mixtures of sand, rocks and metal while developing their enquiry skills.

Across the school, children marked Black History Week by learning about inspirational Black figures from history, music, sport and politics. These important discussions encouraged reflection on the contributions they have made to society and celebrated the value of equity and inclusion.

Edge Class had a wonderfully creative week, exploring artistic techniques including impasto, using paint mixed with flour to create texture, and sgraffito, scratching through paint to reveal the surface beneath. The results showcased fantastic creativity and skill.

A week of sporting success

Sporting Success at Wenlock

It’s been a fantastic week of sport at Wenlock, with our children demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination, resilience and sportsmanship across a range of events and competitions.

Priory Class enjoyed a fantastic Multiskills event at William Brookes School, while our Year 2, 3 and 4 pupils represented the school brilliantly at Football and Netball competitions hosted by Bowbrook. The week was rounded off with an after-school High 5 League Netball tournament at William Brookes School.

A huge thank you to Bowbrook and William Brookes School for providing these valuable opportunities for our children. We would also like to thank our dedicated staff, whose commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to give up their own time make experiences like these possible. Their support helps children build confidence, develop resilience and discover what they can achieve both on and off the field.

Hello Yellow brightens our week

This week, Much Wenlock Primary School proudly supported Hello Yellow, coming together to wear yellow, raise vital funds and spark important conversations about mental health, helping to ensure no young person feels alone.

Our staff “Imperfectly Perfect Bake-Off” was a real highlight of the day, with pupils guessing which member of staff was behind each creation. From surprisingly accurate masterpieces to cakes that looked like they’d had a very long day at school, the entries brought plenty of laughter and smiles. Our wonderful community stepped in as judges before the cakes were sold to raise money for charity, and while some staff discovered hidden baking talents, others were reminded why they chose teaching instead!

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, judged, donated and bought cake. Together, we’re helping ensure no young person feels alone with their mental health, while reminding ourselves that it’s OK not to be perfect.

Celebrating Faith, Diversity and Community

Our children had a wonderful time during Multi-Faith Week, learning about Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism through a range of engaging talks and activities. The week was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate diversity, encourage curiosity and deepen our understanding of different faiths and cultures. A huge thank you to Mrs Neale, our guest speaker, for leading a special assembly and helping to make the week so meaningful for our children.

Abbey Class Explores the Abbey That Inspired Their Name

This week, Abbey Class enjoyed a special visit to Much Wenlock Abbey, the historic landmark that inspired their class name. Walking amongst the magnificent ruins, the children were full of awe and wonder as they explored the rich history, connection and community right on their doorstep. Through sketching, investigating and discovering the stories of the Abbey, they brought their learning to life while deepening their connection to the local heritage that makes our community so special.

Big Friends Making a Big Difference

It’s lovely to see our Wenlock Big Friends, Little Friends in action. Earlier this week, Spring and Abbey Class came together as our Year 5 children met their Reception buddies, beginning special friendships that will continue throughout the year.

As playground buddies, our older pupils help to look out for, support and encourage their younger friends, creating a strong sense of belonging across the school. This nurturing approach helps Reception children build confidence and settle happily into school life, while developing empathy, leadership and responsibility in our Year 5 pupils. We are proud of the kindness, care and nurture shown by all the children as these wonderful friendships begin to grow.

Wonder around Wenlock

Our Nursery children enjoyed a wonderful visit to Much Wenlock, exploring our local area and learning about the importance of community, local heritage and independent businesses.

The children were fantastic ambassadors for our school, demonstrating excellent listening skills, exemplary behaviour and truly living The Wenlock Way. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school throughout the visit.

Abbey Class dine as one big family

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Abbey Class Family Lunch and took the opportunity to see the wonderful work the children have been doing. As one of our core curriculum drivers, community is incredibly important to us, and it was fantastic to strengthen those home-school connections by welcoming families into the classroom. Mrs Steventon and Mrs Kennils thoroughly enjoyed sharing this special experience with the children and their families.

A huge thank you, as always, to our fantastic kitchen team and lunch supervisors for making it all possible.

Abbey Class Highlights

Over the last couple of weeks, Abbey Class have been busy getting creative in Art, exploring democracy by voting for our new School Council representatives, and becoming scientists through a range of hands-on investigations.

We have also enjoyed two wonderful Love to Read sessions in our fantastic library, developing our love of books.

Culture Club: Bonjour, France!

This week, Culture Club travelled to France! Children enjoyed learning about French religions, hobbies and crafts, sampling French cuisine, and even playing What’s the Time, Mr Wolf? in French of course.
Culture Club is a fantastic way for children to explore different cultures, broaden their understanding of the world and have fun along the way. We can’t wait to see where our journey takes us next week.

Our Family Lunches are back by popular demand

Miss Torrington and Mrs Beddow had the pleasure of welcoming our Linden Class families for the first family lunch of the school year. It was a lovely opportunity to share a delicious roast together and spend time looking through the children’s work.

A huge thank you to our amazing kitchen team for such a lovely meal – the roasties are always a huge hit!

We look forward to welcoming all our other classes and their families to future lunches and continuing to create these valuable opportunities to come together.

And that’s a wrap for Linden Class at Arête.

After a week packed with adventure, first-time experiences and plenty of opportunities to show bravery and resilience, Linden Class returned home on Friday with memories to last a lifetime.

Their final activity saw the whole class rafting together on the lake. What began as a fun race across the water soon turned into an epic splash battle between the boats – the perfect way to end an incredible week.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff team for their care, encouragement and dedication throughout the week. Following such an adventurous few days, we hope that both children and staff have enjoyed a well-deserved chance to rest, recharge and share stories from a truly memorable experience.

They have already shown great courage, teamwork and determination while abseiling, climbing, exploring the lakes and preparing their own meals.

Everyone has embraced the challenges with enthusiasm, and we are incredibly proud of their positive attitudes and adventurous spirit. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings!

Arête Day 2 and 3

Tuesday & Wednesday at Arête
What an adventure! Linden Class climbed through the gorge at Lion’s Rock, relaxed with a picnic on the beach, and bravely tackled the Cable Bay zip wire over the sea. 🌊☀️ The children showed great courage and determination, making wonderful memories together along the way.

A Fantastic Farewell for the Class of 2026

Last Friday’s Y6 Leavers Fest 2026 was a huge success, packed with unforgettable memories, from snakes, a giant water slide, an inflatable to heaps of activities, campfire songs and plenty of pizza!

There was even the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pelt our Executive Head Teacher, Mrs R H James, with water balloons!

A huge thank you to all of our amazing parents who gave up their time to help plan, organise, fundraise, host and throw themselves into every part of the event. It simply could not have happened without you. A special thank you to Emma, Tom and Claire for everything you did to make the evening so special.

We would also like to thank Mrs Beddow for giving up her evening to help ensure everything ran smoothly.

We think the photos say it all… so many huge smiles and happy memories for our wonderful leavers.

Standing Ovation for Our Year 5 & 6 Stars!

Last week, our Year 5 and 6 children treated us to two, yes two truly wonderful performances. We are incredibly proud of every single one of them for their dedication, courage, hard work and endless talent.

The audience was in stitches with laughter one moment and filled with amazement the next. From start to finish, the children were outstanding, and we can confidently say we’ve never heard a better David Attenborough impression!

A huge thank you to our wonderful children for putting on such a fantastic show, and to our school community for supporting them so enthusiastically with your audience participation and encouragement.

Finally, a very special thank you must go to the incredible Mrs Beddow, who has devoted every spare minute over the last few months to bringing this production to life. Her commitment, passion and hard work have resulted in what many have described as an outstanding success.

Bravo, everyone! We couldn’t be prouder. 👏

Tilia celebrate last day of term

Over and out for Tilia class 2026. We have had the best time with all the children and made so many beautiful memories.

It has been the biggest privilege watching them learn and grow into the people they are becoming and they are all going to do so amazing in year 2!

We hope you have the best summer, you have all earned it 😊

Inspiring Change Through Creativity and Sustainability

🌟 A huge well done to our children who entered the Much Wenlock Plastic Free July competition! As sustainability is one of our school values, this was a particularly important event to take part in. Children were presented with their prizes by the Town Mayor, and their winning posters can now be seen in High Street shop windows, encouraging everyone to reduce plastic waste. Thank you to the organisers for making this fantastic competition possible. ♻️👏💚

🌊 Smiles, sandy toes and unforgettable memories

The whole school had an amazing day at the beach, enjoying everything from building sandcastles to visiting the lifeboat station and learning more about water safety and the role of the RNLI. There was plenty of fun along the way too, including a few cheeky seagulls who were more than happy to try and pinch a bite or two from our lunches!

School trips like these give children the chance to experience new places, discover new interests and make special memories with their friends. For some children, this was their first visit to the seaside, making the experience particularly meaningful.

A truly wonderful day from start to finish! 🏖️💙🌊
