Weekly Word
This week has been a wonderful celebration of reading, creativity and community, and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it so special.
Our World Book Day celebrations on Wednesday were a real highlight. It was fantastic to see so many brilliant costumes – from homemade creations to reused outfits – showcasing just how much imagination and effort had gone into them. I also absolutely loved all of the Book Bake Off entries, which were incredibly creative. Our judges had an extremely difficult job choosing the winners, which were announced today, as the standard was so high. I must admit, I’ve been focusing on eating really healthily lately, but I couldn’t resist filling my face with cake – everything in moderation, eh?
World Book Day was about much more than costumes and cakes. It was about our community. It was truly lovely to see so many parents and carers coming into school to read with their children and support our events. Thanks to your generosity, we raised just over £300 from kind donations, which will directly benefit our children.
Throughout the week, the children also took part in author workshops, something we are proud to offer regularly as part of our commitment to developing a love of reading and writing.
Alongside all of this, there has been lots going on across school life. Edge Class enjoyed a fantastic trip to Wrekin Forest, enhancing their curriculum by delving into life in the Stone Age and bringing their learning to life. Today some of our girls had a wonderful opportunity to take part in training at Shrewsbury Town Football Ground – a fantastic experience that they will remember for a long time.
A quick reminder that our assessment week will be taking place over the next week or so. Please do reassure your children that these help us understand how best to support their learning and are nothing to worry about.
We have also recently analysed pupil, staff and parent voice in relation to our Behaviour and Relationships Policy. We have been working hard to create something that genuinely reflects the views shared with us, and we are really pleased with what is developing. We will be communicating this with everyone by the end of the summer term.
This week, we were delighted to welcome our Chair of Trustees, who visited the school, walked the grounds at lunchtime and saw our children at play and interacting together. He commented on the transformation he has seen in our school and how wonderful it was to see such happy children and such a dedicated team. I was proud to talk about our community and how much we value what we have built together.
I hope you can see how hard the team works every day to create the best possible experience for your children. While not everything can ever be perfect, please know that we are a team who listens, reflects and is always striving to improve, with one clear aim: to ensure every child thrives.
Today, I will also be sending out our parent survey, and I would really appreciate as many responses as possible. We genuinely welcome feedback as it helps us continue to improve, and if you have experienced positives, I kindly ask that you reflect those too. Our team goes above and beyond every day, and it means a great deal to be able to share that through your honest feedback.z

Wildlife Photography Competition
Dear Much Wenlock Primary School,
We’re excited to invite your pupils to take part in our Wildlife Photography Competition, launched to celebrate the arrival of the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition which will be here at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery from Saturday 25th April- Saturday 20th June.
This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to:
- Build confidence and creativity through hands‑on photography
- Explore local wildlife and green spaces, however big or small
- Connect with nature and develop their observation skills
- Showcase their talents in a public exhibition of shortlisted entries
How it works:
Pupils can photograph any aspect of wildlife—from insects in the playground to birds in the park or pets at home. Entries can be taken on phones, tablets, or cameras. We welcome submissions from all year groups.
