World Book Day 2026 – Wednesday 4th March

Dear Parents/Carers and Children

This year, World Book Day at Much Wenlock is coming with a twist…

We are setting a challenge – take part only if you want to!

We absolutely love seeing the children dressed as their favourite book characters. The creativity, the excitement, the conversations about stories – it’s brilliant. But we also know that buying a brand-new costume for one day isn’t always kind to our wallets… or our planet.

And that doesn’t quite fit with who we are.

As a school, we believe in Sustainability – looking after our environment, being thoughtful financially and caring for our community. So this year, our World Book Day theme is a:

🌍✨ Sustainability Challenge ✨🌍

We would love the children to dress up – but here’s the twist:

Your costume can be:

✔️ Made (bonus points for recycled materials!)
✔️ Reused (bring back a classic from a previous year!)
✔️ Borrowed
✔️ Or found in a charity shop

The golden rule?

✨ No brand-new costumes.

This links to our school values:

  • Wonder – using imagination and getting creative
  • Equity – making sure everyone can take part
  • Sustainability – making choices that protect our world

We know our children. We know how inventive they are. Cardboard. Old sheets. A bit of face paint. A clever idea. That’s all it takes.

In fact, we think this might be our most imaginative World Book Day yet.

Let the planning begin…

We cannot wait to see what you create.
